Thomas Stoneroad '19
Thomas Stoneroad '19 is an early childhood education/curriculum and instruction major. "Since retiring from the United Stated Air Force, I've been looking for my next passion. I found it in education. My second career goal is becoming the best early childhood educator I can be!" he said.
When he's not substitute teaching in the Abilene Independent School District, he volunteers at the Hendrick Center for Rehabilitation providing Pet Enhanced Therapy Services. Regarding his McMurry experience, he states, "I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the personalized attention I get from the staff and administration when I have questions and/or concerns.".
In a letter of appreciation to the donors who made the scholarship possible, Stoneroad wrote, "I am honored to be a recipient of your scholarship. Through this scholarship, you have given me the opportunity to attend a great university and pursue my goal of becoming an early childhood educator. I always strive to be the best person I can possibly be. After retiring from the military, I was looking for another way to make a positive impact on people's lives and the answer was becoming an educator. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me to realize my dreams and make the most of my college years. I will never forget the generosity you have shown me. I only hope that I can one day follow your example in helping students get their college education."
